1. SITE ORIENTATION
On my first day on site, I will be shown the following by the Site Inductor. I confirm I will not commence work until this orientation is complete:
- Site entry and exit points
- Site office location
- Toilet facilities
- First aid kit location
- Fire extinguisher locations
- Emergency assembly (muster) point
- Designated smoking area
- Material storage areas
- Waste / rubbish disposal areas
- Current excavation locations and exclusion zones
- Hazardous areas and restricted zones
2. PPE REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory PPE at all times on this site:
- Hard hat (AS/NZS 1801 compliant)
- High-visibility vest or clothing
- Steel-capped safety boots
- Safety glasses (in designated areas)
- Additional task-specific PPE as required (gloves, hearing protection, harness, respiratory)
You are responsible for supplying and maintaining your own PPE.
3. SITE ACCESS & SECURITY
- No unauthorised persons permitted on site
- All visitors must report to the site office
- Deliveries to designated areas only
- Work only during approved site hours unless authorised
4. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
- In an emergency, proceed immediately to the assembly point
- Report all incidents, injuries, and near-misses to the Site Supervisor IMMEDIATELY
- Do NOT disturb the scene of a serious incident
- Know the location of first aid kits and fire extinguishers
- If you discover a fire - raise the alarm, evacuate, call 000
5. WORKING AT HEIGHTS
- Fall protection is required at 2 metres or above
- Guardrails, safety mesh, or personal fall arrest systems must be used
- Do NOT work near unprotected edges without appropriate controls
- Ladders must be secured and inspected before use
- Only licensed operators may use Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs)
6. SCAFFOLDING
- Do NOT access incomplete scaffolds
- Do NOT alter, move, or dismantle any scaffold component unless you hold the appropriate HRWL
- Check scaffold is tagged and safe before use
- Report any scaffold damage or concerns to the Site Supervisor immediately
- Do not overload scaffolds - check duty rating
7. PLANT & MACHINERY
- Only ticketed / licensed operators may operate plant and machinery
- Maintain exclusion zones around operating plant
- Wear high-vis when working near mobile plant
- Sound horn before moving or reversing plant
- Maintain 4 metre clearance from overhead power lines
- Report any defects or damage immediately
- No passengers unless equipment is designed for multiple occupants
8. EXCAVATIONS
- Do NOT enter excavations deeper than 1.5m without shoring or benching
- Maintain exclusion zones around all excavations
- Underground services must be located and marked before excavation
- Spotter required when plant operates near excavations
9. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
- All electrical leads and equipment must be tested and tagged (current)
- RCDs must be used on all circuits
- No work on live electrical services without a permit
- Report damaged leads or electrical equipment immediately
10. HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
- If asbestos is suspected - STOP WORK immediately and notify the Site Supervisor
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available at the site office
- Store chemicals in designated areas only
- Know the location of spill kits
11. HOUSEKEEPING
- Keep your work area clean and tidy at all times
- Do not block walkways, access routes, or emergency exits
- Dispose of rubbish in designated bins
- Store tools and materials safely at the end of each day
- Clean as you go - not just at knock-off
12. SAFE WORK METHOD STATEMENTS (SWMS)
- SWMS is required for all high-risk construction work
- SWMS must be site-specific (not generic)
- All workers must sign the SWMS before commencing work
- Review and update SWMS if site conditions change
13. DRUGS & ALCOHOL
- Zero tolerance for impairment from drugs or alcohol
- Random testing may be conducted
- Prescription medications that may affect work must be declared
- Impaired workers will be immediately removed from site
14. CONDUCT & BEHAVIOUR
- No horseplay or unsafe behaviour
- Smoking in designated areas only
- No mobile phones while operating plant or in hazardous areas
- Respectful behaviour towards all workers at all times
- Follow all lawful directions from the Site Supervisor
15. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS SUBCONTRACTOR
- Supervise your workers and ensure they comply with these site rules
- Provide your own PPE (compliant and maintained)
- Provide current SWMS for your scope of work
- Ensure all your workers are inducted before starting work
- Notify of any changes to insurance, licences, or personnel
- Attend toolbox talks when required
- Cooperate with other trades to manage shared risks
16. NON-COMPLIANCE
Failure to comply with these site rules may result in:
- Verbal warning (documented)
- Written warning
- Immediate stand-down from site
- Removal from site
- Permanent ban and report to regulator (for reckless conduct)
17. YOUNG, INEXPERIENCED & VULNERABLE WORKERS
Please notify the Site Supervisor if any of the following apply to you:
- You are under 25 years of age
- You have less than 2 years experience in construction
- English is not your first language
- You have any medical conditions, injuries, or disabilities that may affect your work
- You are returning to work after a significant injury or illness
This information helps us ensure appropriate supervision and support. You have the right to ask questions about any task.
18. WHS MANAGEMENT PLAN
A Work Health and Safety Management Plan (WHSMP) has been prepared for this project in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Section 309). The WHSMP is available for inspection at the site office at any time.
You have the right to request and inspect the WHS Management Plan at any time during your engagement on this project.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
By signing below, I confirm that:
- I have read and understood all site rules outlined above (Sections 1-18).
- I understand that a physical site orientation (Section 1) will be conducted on my first day on site, and I will not commence work until this is complete.
- I agree to comply with all site rules, procedures, and lawful directions issued by the Site Supervisor or Principal Contractor.
- I understand that the WHS Management Plan is available for inspection at the site office, and I have the right to request a copy at any time.
- I understand that failure to comply with these rules may result in removal from site.
